Taiko 3DS2 English Patch

This tutorial provides instructions to apply the English patch of Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to KAtsu no Jikuu Daibouken ("Taiko no Tatsujin: Don and Katsu's Spacetime Adventure") on modern custom firmware environments. This is necessary as the instructions in the original post describe outdated or non-ideal methods that are less clean than LayeredFS.

What this tutorial will do

This tutorial will:

  • Install the English patch of the game in a way where it can be easily disabled at will
  • Fix DLC if it is installed (hopefully)

What you need

  • A modded 3DS running a modern CFW environment
    • These instructions should work on any Luma3DS version with LayeredFS support (7.0 and greater), but anyone on an older Luma version should still update their setup to the latest
  • A clean cartridge or digital copy of Taiko no Tatsuin: Don to Katsu no Jikuu Daibouken updated to the latest version (v1.1)
  • The English patch (ROMFS English Menu Patch Version 1.1)
  • the v0.04 nightly release of LumaLocaleSwitcher

Section I - Prep Work

  1. Place LumaLocaleSwitcher-0.04-NIGHTLY.cia in the /cias/ folder
    • Create the folder if it does not already exist
  2. Extract ROMFS Version 1.1.zip to your working directory
    • The result should be several XDelta and patching files in a folder named ROMFS Version 1.1
  3. Insert your SD card into your 3DS

Section IIa - Dumping RomFS (digital)

These instructions only apply to digital copies of the game. If you have a cartridge, follow Section IIb instead.
